Since his international debut in 2011, Alberto Agut has firmly established himself as one of the leading clarinetists of his generation. His work as a soloist, Artistic Director and chamber musician has earned critical acclaim for his dynamic musicality and distinctive freshness, which consistently elevate his performances and projects.
Agut’s engagements have taken him across Europe, the United States, and beyond, with performances in renowned venues such as Carnegie Music Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Palau de la Música Catalana, Palau de la Música de Valencia, Auditori de Castelló, Liceo d’Artă de Baia Mare, Benedict Tent, Joan and Irving Harris Concert Hall, FolketsHus Vänersborg, Trollhättan FolketsHus, Bing Theater, Bovard Auditorium, and many others. He has collaborated with prestigious orchestras including the Orquesta Simfónica de Madrid, the leading Swedish chamber orchestra Camerata Nordica, Madrid Chamber Orchestra, Aspen Philharmonic, Symphony Orchestra of Vallés, and many others, working with esteemed conductors such as Carl St. Clair, James Conlon, Robert Spano, Hugh Wolf, Federico Cortese, Jane Glover, Johannes Gustafsson, and others.
A passionate advocate for expanding the clarinet repertoire, Agut has worked closely with composers to commission and create new works. His ambitious Spanish Dances project, in collaboration with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra Camerata Nordica and composer Vicente Ortiz Gimeno, blends music and storytelling to forge a powerful connection with audiences. His collaboration with composer Daniel Royo led to the creation of the double concerto La Dama del Bosc, set to be premiered in Pittsburgh with violinist Andrés Cárdanes, former concertmaster of Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
Throughout his career, Agut has collaborated with distinguished artists such as Alban Gerhardt, Paquito D’Rivera, Sarah Chang, Francisco Fullana, Yury Revich, Laura Park Chen, Julianne J. Lee, Gergana Gergova, Chul-Geun Park, Sono Tokuda, Armen Nazarian, and Alfonso Venturi. His international tours have featured Mozart and Nielsen concertos, and he is slated to record Brahms’ Sonatas with pianist Harrison Herman in the 2025/2026 season.
Agut is regularly invited to teach at the European Clarinet Institute alongside artists like Martin Fröst, Florent Héau, Harri Mäkki, and Björn Nyman, further supporting his commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians.
In addition to his performing career, Agut is a visionary creator. His work spans diverse formats, from solo and chamber music to leading groundbreaking projects that expand the clarinet repertoire. His dual focus on performance and community outreach is exemplified by his role as Artistic Director of the Castelló Music Festival and the California Music Society, where he has created a platform for international artists and fostered a younger artists and audience for classical music.
In the 2024/2025 season, Agut will perform as Artist in Focus with Camerata Nordica, appearing as soloist-conductor on a Swedish tour and in several chamber music projects. His Latin American debut with the Bogotá Philharmonic, three European tours, and collaborations with the David Oistrakh Quartet, Quatour Elmire, and the Aurora Trio are also key highlights. Agut will also take on the role of Artistic Director for the California Music Society.
Recognized for his innovative programming and community-oriented initiatives, Agut has earned accolades including the Dávalos-Fletcher Foundation Award, the Aspen Music Festival Fellowship, and the Valencian Community Award for Youth Interpreters.
Agut studied at the Superior Conservatory of Castelló under J. E. Romero and Venancio Rius, later pursuing advanced studies with Yehuda Gilad at the USC Thornton School of Music and Michael Rusinek at Carnegie Mellon University.
In February 2021, he was named a Vandoren Ambassador.
