Jonas Ehrler

GENERAL MANAGEMENT

Born in Wettingen in 1992, Jonas Ehrler completed his conducting studies with distinction at the Zurich University of the Arts with Johannes Schlaefli in 2018 and was immediately selected to become assistant conductor of the Orchestre National de Lille, the Orchestre de Picardie and the Orchestre National d’Île-de-France for the 2018/19 season. This was follewd by becoming a semi-finalist in the 1st Siemens Hallé International Conductors Competition 2020.

Ehrler attracted international attention with his participation and associated debut with the Camerata Salzburg in the finals of the Herbert von Karajan Young Conductors Award at the 2021 Salzburg Festival. This success led to immediate invitations with the Orchestre National de Lyon, Camerata Salzburg, Orchestre Royal Philharmonique de Liège, Berner Symphonieorchester, Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic, Orchestre National d’Île-de-France , Orchestre National Avignon Provence, the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, the Schweizer Jugendsinfonieorchester SJSO, Orchestre Chambre de Luxembourg or the Orchestre de Picardie among many others. He celebrated acclaimed performances with the Argovia Philharmonic and the Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden respectively, wich led to immedate re-invitations.

Ehrler is an enthusiastic advocate of contemporary music and is responsible for countless successful world premieres, including those by Gérard Zinsstag with the Ensemble proton, Manuel Zwerger and Thierry Tidrow with the Ensemble Modern and Stephanie Haensler with the Ensemble TaG and the Neue Kurkapelle Baden. His first performance of the orchestral version of Guillaume Connesson's "Timouk" at the Philharmonie de Paris met with great acclaim.

During the COVID crisis, Jonas Ehrler has turned to local culture and founded the Neue Kurkapelle Baden, reviving the traditional spa orchestra in his hometown Baden in Switzerland.

From 2017 to 2019 Jonas Ehrler held the Akademie Musiktheater heute scholarship from the Deutsche Bank Foundation and he continues to be supported by the Willem Mengelberg Foundation. He has also received valuable inspiration from figures such as Bernard Haitink, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Peter Eötvös.
