Biography
Ole Edvard Antonsen is regarded as one of the world ́s leading trumpet soloists today, and he is one of Norway ́s absolute biggest international stars.
The last few years he has performed as a soloist with London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Polish National Radio Orchestra, Szczecin Philharmonic, Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, München Sinfonie Orchester, Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra, Osaka Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Komische Oper, Münchner Kammerorkester, WDR Köln, Rio Symph.Orch, Taiwan National Symph.Orch, and on tour with his own band and symphony orchestra in Germany, Malaysia, Singapore , Denmark ao.
Antonsen has played as a soloist on the major music scenes and on stages in more than 45 countries around the world like Carnegie Hall NY, Musikverein in Vienna, Suntory Hall Tokyo, Sydney Opera House, Barbican Hall London, Philharmonie and Konserthaus Berlin, in addition to big stadiums like Olympiahalle Munich, Seoul Olympic Stadium ao.
Collaborating with conductors like Mariss Jansons, Wolfgang Sawallish, Philippe Herreweghe, Kent Nagano, Dimitry Kitayenko, to mention a few, Antonsen has also performed with major orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra OSESP, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Orchestra of St.Martin in the Fields.
His remarkable versatility as a musician means that he is just as much at home working with a symphony orchestra or collaborating with pop, rock or jazz musicians.
Pop and rock musicians like John Miles, Level 42 ́s Mark King, Lisa Stansfield, Rickie Lee-Jones, Ute Lemper, Secret Garden are also amongst his collaborators as well as jazz ensembles like The Metropole Orchestra (Holland), Willem Breuker Kollektief and his own jazz ensembles.
As a conductor Antonsen has conducted a lot of different orchestras and ensembles like Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra brass, Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra winds, The Royal Danish Opera Orchestra brass and percussion and the first ever project with the world orchestra “World of Winds” in 2006 .
From 2006 -2010 Antonsen was Chief conductor and Artistic leader of the Royal Norwegian Air Force Band. In August 2007 he was appointed Commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav by His Majesty King Harald of Norway for his formidable contribution to Norwegian music both in Norway and abroad. From 2010-2014 Ole Edvard was Chief conductor and Artistic leader of the Norwegian Wind Orchestra. From 2007-2012 he was Professor at The Norwegian State Academy
From 2016 – Ole Edvard is Artistic leader of Festspillene i Elverum (fie.no). From 2017 – 2021 Ole Edvard was Artistic leader and Chief conductor of Prinsens Musikkorps in Denmark. From 2019 – Ole Edvard is Honorary Professor at the Danish National Academy of music.
Ole Edvard Antonsen has recorded more than 50 solo CD ́s in all genres for labels like EMI, Universal, BMG, BIS.
In 1994 he recorded the official Olympic Fanfare for the winter Olympics in Lillehammer and he also played at the closing ceremony in Albertville Olympics in 1992.
Antonsen has premiered more than 60 major works written especially for him. Last 15-20 years he has also composed pieces that he has recorded on CD and played on tours at more than 400 concerts around the world under the title “Musical Landscapes”.
