Joachim Gustafsson is widely recognized as one of the most versatile Scandinavian conductors of his generation.
 
Maestro Gustafsson was appointed Director Musical Titular of Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá in July 2021. Gustafsson made his debut with the orchestra already in 2012 and has been a regular guest since then.
 
Joachim Gustafsson works regularly with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Filarmonica de Bogotá, The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Copenhagen Philharmonic, Orquesta Filarmonica Juvenil de Bogotá, Odense Symphony Orchestra, Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic, South Jutland Symphony Orchestra, Kammerakademie Potsdam, The Nordic Chamber Orchestra, Gothenburg Opera Orchestra, The Royal Navy Band, Gothenburg Wind Orchestra, The Dala Sinfonietta, Malmö Opera Orchestra, Gürzenich Kammerorchester Köln, Aarhus Sinfonietta to name a few.
 
Gustafsson is also regular guest conductor at The Danish National Opera (Gustafsson is also member of the Board at DNO) where he in 2014 conducted the world premiere of The Picture of Dorian Gray, an award-winning opera written by the Danish composer Thomas Agerfeldt Olesen. This also resulted in a highly praised DVD on the Da Capo label.
 
In the spring of 2019 he returned to The Danish National Opera to revive the late romantic opera Cleopatra by Danish-Italian composer August Enna. This production was released on CD by the Da Capo label in the autumn of 2020 with great critical success and was nominated for the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis.
 
His next recording projects at Da Capo include the complete symphonies by the Danish late-romantic composers August Enna and Victor Bendix. Upoming recording projects include Beethoven piano concertos with Niklas Sivelöv and the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá.
 
Joachim Gustafsson also recorded for the BIS-label. The last release was devoted to the music of the prolific Swedish composer Tommie Haglund with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra.
 
He made his debut at The Royal Opera in Stockholm with Verdi’s Otello in 2004. At the Malmö Opera he celebrated a huge success in both Der Rosenkavalier and Poulencs Dialogues de Carmelite. At the Staatstheater Darmstadt he guested in Strauss Ariadne auf Naxos and at the Theater Ulm in Cosi Fan Tutte.
 
Joachim Gustafsson is also Artistic Leader of the Tommie Haglund Festival in Halmstad, Sweden. This is an orchestra/chamber music festival held biannually devoted to the music of Tommie Haglund. In April 2022 he put the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá as orchestra-in-residence.
 
As conductor and violinist he has premiered more than 200 new works. Notable premieres include the operas Snow Whites Mirror by Niels Martinsen and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Agerfeldt-Olesen. He is also the major ambassador for the music of Tommie Haglund, and has been involved in the premieres of almost all of Haglund works since 1991.
 
Joachim Gustafsson is also teaching extensively and is one of the mentors in the project DIRIGENT, aiming to give female conductors the chance to develop their skills. He has also been engaged as guest professor in conducting at The Royal Danish Conservatory in Copenhagen.
 
Joachim Gustafsson was 1st prize winner of the AICE competition Jugend und Musik in Wien in 1988. He studied conducting with Professors Karl Österreicher and Otmar Suitner in Wien. Other mentors have been Sixten Ehrling, Siegfried Köhler, Leif Segerstam and Okko Kamu.
