Sony Classical artist, JUNO Award winner and one of the rare musicians to have established major international careers as both violinist and conductor, Canadian Alexandre Da Costa is Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of Mexico’s Orquesta Sinfónica Sinaloa de las Artes. From 2019 to 2026, he served as Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique du Québec.
As a conductor, Da Costa has collaborated with leading orchestras including the Wiener Symphoniker, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic, Prague Symphony Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Basque National Symphony Orchestra. His 2026–27 season includes guest conducting engagements across Germany, the USA, Canada, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador and Mexico.
As a violinist, Alexandre Da Costa has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Vienna’s Musikverein, Berlin’s Philharmonie, Carnegie Hall and Beijing’s Poly Theater, and has collaborated with conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Leonard Slatkin, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Tugan Sokhiev and Vasily Petrenko.
Alongside his conducting career, Da Costa has enjoyed an extensive international career as a violinist, performing in major venues including Vienna’s Musikverein, Berlin’s Philharmonie and Carnegie Hall, and working with distinguished conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Leonard Slatkin and Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
A prolific recording artist, Da Costa has released 28 albums on Sony Classical, Warner Classics, Naxos, ATMA and Universal. His recording of Michael Daugherty’s violin concertos with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra received the 2012 JUNO Award for Classical Album of the Year.
